I recently received an nice email from Wendy J. She produces and hosts a podcast called The Tarot Experiment. BTW - if you’re into Tarot and Spirituality - give it a listen!

Hal! I loved your podcast origin story. One thing came to mind: It’s really fun to set up a podcast, but sticking with it and not giving in to “podfade” can be difficult. Are your sister and niece still podcasting?
How do you handle avoiding podfade?
For those of you who don’t know - podfade refers to starting a podcast that you’re all excited about, because everyone else is doing it and you think you have something equally important, or funny or relevant or you have a great voice that you MUST share with the whole world and after you record your first episode or two, you decide that you hate the sound of your own voice, or you used up everything you had to say in one or two episodes, or you just don’t feel like doing it because you found out how much work it is to do a podcast on a consistent basis. Or you thought you’d immediately get thousands of followers and make a million dollars on your ebook called How to Make A Million Dollars Selling Your Ebook with Your Podcast. So now to answer Wendy J’s question…
Funny you should ask, Wendy, because i actually thought about this a lot before I started my podcast. Now keep in mind… I’ve been doing this less than a year myself, so I’m no expert. But I’ve heard more than one expert on the subject and they say if you get beyond your first 7 episodes and still have the enthusiasm and enough material to keep going, podfade is less likely.
You asked if my sister and my niece are still podcasting. Yes, they are. My sister and her cohost, Julie just celebrated their first year of doing their podcast Shrinks on Third. In their case, having each other as part of a support system helps. They’re both psychologists and their podcast is all about psychology and social justice. They believe strongly in social justice and each week feature guests on the show discussing hot topics that affect all of our lives.
My niece does a podcast with 4 or five others. It’s called Season of the Bitch and it’s “…produced entirely by a leftist gaggle of women” - their words. Not mine. Again, there’s a whole gaggle of them, so they never run out of energy, enthusiasm or things to talk about.
Then there’s me. How do I do it? That IS a very good question!
I have always been a writer and an inquisitive person. At 67, I’ve probably had enough life experiences to write several books. So, instead of writing a book, I blog and podcast. It’s cathartic. It’s - for lack of a better word - therapeutic. I am compelled to do this by some force inside of me.
I have two podcasts. My first one is called Tales of the Road Warriors and it’s based on my first love - playing music. I have a lot of stories to share and I also have a lot of friends with stories to share - and THEY all have friends with stories to share. So each week, I
talk to a different musical “road warrior” about their experiences on stage and in planes, trains and automobiles, shitty hotel rooms, club owners, crazy fans, or celebrity encounters. I think I’ll have enough material and guests to talk to - for years!
This new podcast, Easy When You Know Hal just came to me out of nowhere. My podcast coach, David Hooper, suggested I do the NaPodPomo 30 day podcast challenge, where you do a podcast a day for 30 days. A couple years, I was going to do a YouTube channel and make a bunch of “How-To videos. My friend, David suggested the name “It’s Easy When You know Hal” so I created a free site on Weebly, and never got beyond that stage. I remembered the site was still just sitting there in cyberspace, completely ignored and neglected and now - here we are at Episode 5. And thanks to you Wendy, I have something to write about :-)
As for you, I don’t see how you can go wrong with Tarot and Spirituality. Yo can do a whole episode based on each card in the deck. You probably can record readings of your friends on your show or just talk to guests and share experiences with them if doing podcasting solo becomes to boring for you.
I mentioned earlier, that there is a force inside me that compels me to keep going? Don’t get me wrong. Sometime that force gets a little burned out, too and wants to quit. But, hey I’m no quitter. Unless you’re talking about smoking. Ah.. but how I quit smoking is another episode of ---- It’s Easy When You Know Hal!
